Legend has it that Billy the Kid was not killed by Pat Garret in New Mexico, but escaped to Hico, TX where he lived under the name of "Brushy Bill" Roberts. Brushy Bill died in 1950. Prior to his death he confessed that he was indeed Billy the Kid. Was this another unprovable legend similar to tale of John Wilkes Booth who was reported to have fled after the assination of Lincoln and settled in Granbury under the name of John St. Helen.
